Have you ever been called a skeptic? Have you ever thought about the way some people think? Have you ever listened to someone talk about God, about the world, about science, about philosophy, about life and thought, "wow, how unrealistic does this person sound," or "what the hell are you saying?" If so, feel free to say whatever you want. Welcome to SKEPTACENTRAL!

Are We All Equal?

In the eyes of God I guess we are all equal. But that is if you actually believe in God. Am I equal to a murderer? I have been told that I am. What the hell I say. How is it that I am no better than someone who kills people and just has a fucking sick mentality? Some wide-eyed thinkers have said that we should apply the theory of relativity to the world in which we live. So if we do that, then they think that I may think that I am better than a murderer, but the murderer may believe he's better than me. Hmmm...then they say that it is because of social laws that the murderer is viewed as lower than me. So what, shall we just rid ourselves of social laws that keep one another from creating complete chaos? So I say, no, we are not all equal. I don't think that a rapist is better than me. I've also heard that we all have the ability to kill, but most of us do not. Shall I get a reward for not killing? No, I don't think so. How about just having someone say, "yeah, I think you're a little better than a murderer." Maybe that's too much to ask.

THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS BETTER!

If you compare yourself to a murderer or a rapist, you see yourself as "higher" or "better" or whatever, and that makes you feel good: completely rational. I sometimes catch myself in social situations putting myself above other people in the room, as a means of raising my confidence, etc. However, I know that this is just a somewhat subconscious device that kicks in when I'm not feeling %100. It doesn't mean that I'm actually better than anybody else.

You see yourself as better, and therefore you are better. There's no objectivity to it though.

But that just be my opinion.

As I see it, humans relate to eachother on two basic levels (although possibly many many more than that). There first point is that we are all human and occupy the same space, therefore equally relating on a corporeal and possibly spirtitual level. This level is more abstract, and I think it is the reason we as Americans say all humans are equal. Humans also relate on a social capacity, and as is such, we have created morals as a way to govern interactions. So on one level, we are equal, but on a social level we are rarely equal. So at any time I am equal to a murderer, better than him, and even worse than him if you compared me to him on a value that he may have over me.
